Meeting Halkidiki

 

Following the coastal road from the east N.Moudania after 37 km. Polygyros or south-southeast also after 37 km. arrive in Nikiti, the largest town in the area that houses the Hall of Sithonia and has taken its name from the church of St. Nikita the 16th century.

Two kilometers from Nikiti the road splits again. If we continue south along the coast and cross country road one can see magnificent scenery from above the crystal blue waters of small bays of the Gulf Toroneos ribbon of road that goes around the mountains of Sithonia with lush vegetation. Pass by the fantastic beaches Kastri Saint-John, Koviou, the famous coast Kalogria with water sports, beach Olive Lagomandra the green coast and adjacent beaches to modern camping, scenic coastline also Tripotamos, Azapiko, Koutsoupia and Paradise almost before we enter the New Marmara. Moreover, at 8 km from Nikiti to our left on the mountain is the settlement with St. Paul monastery of Agia Fotini and 18 km. from Nikiti, right next to the Marmara, the traditional picturesque village reminiscent of the Parthenon before a settlement in 1960 at an altitude of 300 meters from the sea.

Continuing our route always seaside and after passing by the coast and Spalathronisia Tristinika Destenika and, through the village at 78 km Toroni. Moudania with the wonderful and long beach, 2 km length., built on the ruins of the ancient town of which few survive, but show the validity and dimensions. Significant is the church of St. Athanasius the fifth century.

From Toroni, if we continue south and east of the coastal road, we cross the Porto Koufos, the deaf port of Thucydides, a small port situated in a deep recess of the sea, but is the largest natural harbor in Greece. The construction is such that within the space of not hear any sound out of the sea and the rocky shores of the caves are formed in one of which visitors can enter even by boat. It is considered the largest fishing spot of periochis.Meta, bypassing the cape Drepano the southern tip of the peninsula, at 88 km. Moudania the road we came to 98 km. Moudania on the other side of Sithonia, the side of Siggitikos, we pass the beautiful Kalamitsi the coast and the magnificent Arbour Kriaritsi, endless sandy beaches on the Gulf Siggitiko now. After it and the coast Linaraki, we arrive at Sykia, the largest village in Sithonia, 2 km west out of our way and it took its name from a huge fig tree outside the village.

The fig tree back to the main road and after 8 km. graphic reach of small bays in Sarti, a village built in the general area of ancient Sarti, with deep green waters and busy summer months. Only 142 km. by Thes / ki, the village in recent years has become a very popular resort and the impression of a visitor entering the village is stunning. The view from the street is wonderful with its magnificent beach stretching out before us and the deep green mountains to the shade on top.

Three kilometers further north after passing the coast pear with the small marina, we find the beautiful Platanitsi and another 4 km. after, the coast Armenistis with the white stones in the blue-green waters. Fourteen kilometers north reach Vourvourou, a summer resort, too busy in summer, surrounded by pine and olive trees, after moving from the wonderful beaches Lagonissi, Demetrakis, Winged, Walnut, and spiritual plane and visit the old dependencies of the two Agioritikon single Koutloumousiou and painter. It is also worth to visit the nine islands which stretch from Vourvourou as Ormos Panagia Ampelitsia ie, the Nun, the Dove, St. Isidore and others larger than all the Diaporos, whose shores are indented with just the opposite coast and many of them are deserted

Continuing north, passing by the coast swing, Livari (a natural lagoon), and Karagatsi Serenity, finally, 6 km. Vourvourou after we find the Virgin Bay, with its beautiful harbor from where organized sea routes around Mount Athos monasteries of the graphics that literally hanging from the steep mountains of the peninsula, which can be admired in these routes.

Following the main road north we arrive at Agios Nikolaos, a small landlocked and romantic village with traditional houses of the 19th century old streets. We also visit the churches of St. George and Holy Friday. The area is famous for its wine, raki, honey and olive oil. Continuing north through a magnificent trees, we reach the shore Salonikiou, an open beach ideal for sailing.
